Things to know about Tonal Dresing

What is it?

Tonal dressing is the trend of wearing colors within the same color family from head-to-toe. This means wearing different tones of the same family. The most common of tones are from the warm neutral family like browns, tans,  & grays.

So you've figured out what it is, now what?

Decide on a color. Maybe start with your favorite color. Tonal dressing can be applied to absolutely anything! You should definitely go with colors that compliment your skin tone and colors that make you feel confident. Neutrals are always a good idea because they're safe. The color black for instance is great because it's a classic and can be very flattering. However, if you're BOLD like I have chosen to be for my look, that's also great. Let your personality shine through!

What about different textures?

Absolutely try different textures! Try cottons & silks together, or knits & leather. Trying different textures can really improve the impact of a tone-on-tone look.

Would it be okay to wear tonal ensembles to a formal event?

Sure! Again, when done right tonal dressing can be worn at anytime. If going to a wedding for example, my advice would be to stick with muted tones. Go with blacks, beige, navy, or soft pinks. Tonal suits could also work for formal events as well as street style!

What about shoes & accessories?

Ok, here's where it gets really fun. You can wear whatever kind if shoes you want with tonal dressing. It's probably the easiest time you'll have picking a shoe to complete a look! Now depending upon what color you choose I would elect to keep accessories simple.

Now that you have a few tips for tonal dressing you can go shopping for your pieces! Have fun & create great looks!
